“Umikaji Terrace Senagajima” is now very popular with tourists!
In the past, Senagajima was a quiet, uninhabited island where people simply watched airplanes.
When I visited again after a long time, I was surprised by how much it had changed.
In front of me was a beautiful view of blue ocean, white terraces, and planes flying low overhead.
It feels just like a Mediterranean resort island!
While keeping some of its natural island charm, it has become a stylish tourist spot.

“Umikaji Terrace Senagajima” is a resort-style shopping complex on Senagajima, a small island you can reach by car from Okinawa’s main island.
Its main feature is the unique view of white buildings lined up like steps.
Wherever you walk, you’ll find great photo spots.
It feels like you are in a Mediterranean resort.
There are many cafes, restaurants, and small shops, so you can enjoy food and shopping as you walk around.
With beautiful views of Okinawa’s blue ocean, it’s a relaxing place where you can spend a slow and peaceful time.
Highlight 1: Blue Seas and White Terraces-just like the Mediterranean!

When you step onto the terrace, you will see the beautiful deep blue sea of Okinawa right away!
And the white terrace buildings make the blue color look even more beautiful.
This is why people say it looks like a resort in the Mediterranean.

The shops are built on a slope, so you can enjoy a great ocean view from everywhere.
The sunlight on the white walls is very bright
You will be excited by the beautiful tropical energy.

It is very fun to walk up and down the stairs to find your favorite photo spots.
Please take your own special photos with your camera!
Highlight 2: Enjoy Gourmet Food & Sweets on the Terrace

The best part here is, without a doubt, the food you can enjoy on ocean-view terrace seats at every shop!
You’ll find a wide variety of options, from taco-rice and hamburgers made with local Okinawan ingredients to fluffy pancakes and cold gelato.
Having lunch while feeling the ocean breeze makes it even more special.

Especially, the view with a tropical drink made from local fruits in your hand feels truly luxurious.
Many dishes look so stylish that you might think, “It’s too beautiful to eat!”
It’s a place where both your eyes and your appetite will be fully satisfied.
Highlight 3: Just Minutes from Naha Airport! An Easily Accessible Remote Island by Car

When you hear “remote island,” you might think you need to take a boat.
But Senagajima is connected to the main island by a road, so you can get there by car.
It’s also very close, only about 15 minutes by car from Naha Airport!

It’s a perfect place to stop for lunch right after arriving in Okinawa, or to visit before your flight home.
For travelers who want to enjoy Okinawa from start to finish without wasting time, the location is ideal.
It’s also close to Naha city, making it a popular driving spot.
With such easy access, it’s a great place to visit whenever you feel like seeing the ocean.
Highlight 4: Up Close and Thrilling-Watch Planes Fly Right Overhead

Even if you’re not an airplane fan, you’ll be excited by how close the planes are as they land at Naha Airport.
Senagajima is located along the runway path, so you can watch large aircraft flying low right over your head.
At the newer second runway, you can also see planes landing right beside you.

The powerful sound of the engines and the sight of planes coming toward you are truly impressive!
Planes arrive every few minutes, so you won’t miss a photo chance.
The combination of blue ocean, white terraces, and dynamic airplanes is a special view you can only see here.

Sometimes, you can see the fighter jets form the Japan Self-Defense Force!
Highlight 5: A Panoramic View from the Observation Deck

From the top of the terraces and the observation spots on the island, you can see an even more amazing panoramic view.
In front of you is the emerald green sea and the Naha Airport runways.
You can also see the Kerama Islands in the distance.

On a sunny day, you can look down at the sea, which is so clear it’s breathtaking.
Take your time and fully enjoy this wide, breathtaking view!

Parking: Check the Parking No.4 (Observation Plaza), if very crowded

There are several free parking areas on Senagajima.
If you drive clockwise around the island, you will find the parking areas in order: No.1 → No.2 → No.3.
However, since it’s a very popular tourist spot, the parking lots are often crowded.
As mentioned later, when it gets very busy, Parking No.4 (Observation Plaza) is recommended.
It’s not very well known, so you may still be able to find a space there.
Check the Parking No.4 (Observation Plaza), if the parking lots are very crowded
Parking No.1: Parking Lot Located Before Umikaji Terrace

To get to Umikaji Terrace Senagajima, cross the bridge, turn left, and follow the one-way road.
The first parking area you’ll see is Parking No.1, located just before Umikaji Terrace.
However, it is almost always full!
If you find a spot here, you’re lucky.
Even if you pass Umikaji Terrace, there are still parking areas ahead

Even after you pass Umikaji Terrace, there are more parking lots at Parking No2 and No3.
However, these are also always full!
Because of this, many people end up parking on the side of the road.
Parking No.4 (Observation Plaza) is recommended, if Parking No1,2,3 are full

My personal recommendation is Parking No.4 (Observation Plaza).
Even when the other parking areas are very crowded, you can often still find a space here.
Probably because not many people know about it.
It might get crowded in the future, though!

After parking at the Observation Plaza, first head up to the observation deck.
Then, go down the stairs, and you’ll reach the entrance of Umikaji Terrace (near Parking No.1).
On your way back, walk up toward the hotel from Umikaji Terrace, and you’ll return to the Observation Plaza parking area in a loop.
If the parking lots are packed, definitely check Parking No.4!

- Quick Visit: 1 to 2 hours
- Leisurely Visit: 2 to 3 hours
Access
It’s very easy to get there, about 15 minutes by car from Naha Airport.
Most people use a rental car, but you can also get there by local bus.
Since the island is connected by a bridge, you can visit it easily even though it is a remote island.
Its simple and easy-to-find location is another reason it’s great for first-time visitors to Okinawa.
