Since I am from Okinawa, I have been to Cape Manzamo many times.
I was thinking, “I haven’t been to Cape Manzamo in a long time,” when I heard that you now have to pay an admission fee!
Actually, Cape Manzamo used to be free.
When I looked it up online, I found out the admission fee is 100 yen.
While thinking, “It used to be free back in the day…”, I decided to go and see for myself how Cape Manzamo has changed recently.
Purchase your Ticket at the 1st Floor Vending Machine

To walk the Walking Trail, an admission fee is required.
First, please purchase a ticket at the vending machine located on the first floor.
The fee is 100 yen per person, and the price is the same for both adults and children.
Once you have purchased your ticket, show it to the staff at the reception desk next to the machine to enter.
Pass the Reception to find a small “Exhibition Corner”

After passing the reception desk, there is a small Exhibition Corner.
Information explaining Cape Manzamo and insect specimens are on display there.
Exit the building to find the “Photo Spot” and “Commemorative Monument”

Immediately after exiting the building, you will find Commemorative Photo Spots and Monuments.

This is a Monument Dedicated to “Onna Nabee,” a female poet.
She is a legendary figure who is said to have actually lived in Onna Village and is well-known as a master of Ryuka (Traditional Ryukyuan Poetry).
Speaking of which, there was a movie called “Nabi’s Love” a long time ago, wasn’t there?
You can also see Onna Nabee welcoming everyone at the entrance of this building.

The Walking Trail is a Single Path! It takes about 20 to 30 Minutes

Now, it’s finally time to enter the Walking Trail.
The Trail is a single path that allows you to walk all the way around the field.
If you just walk the Trail, it takes about 10 minutes, but if you take photos and slowly enjoy the scenery, it will take around 20 to 30 minutes.
The “Elephant’s Trunk” is an Incredibly Popular Photo Spot!

The most popular spot is undoubtedly the “Elephant’s Trunk.” It is always bustling with many tourists.
This unusually shaped rock was carved over many years by Okinawa’s rough waves, resulting in a very mysterious form.
If you look closely, it certainly does resemble an elephant’s trunk.
Its silhouette, rising out of the blue sea, is truly striking!
Be sure to Take a Commemorative Photo here!
Praised by the King of Ryukyu! The Contrast between the Vast Green Field and the Blue Sea is Stunning

Once you pass the Elephant’s Trunk, you can see a “Vast Open Field” to your right and the “Deep Blue Okinawan Sea” to your left.
The Crystal-Clear Blue Water is truly beautiful!

Looking out toward the open sea, you can see “Ie Island” in the distance!
You can faintly make out the peak rising up in the center.
It is said that when the King of the Ryukyuan Kingdom visited this vast field, he praised it as “a Field enough to seat ten thousand people.”
Looking at this magnificent view, it’s easy to understand how the King felt!
You can see the Manza Beach Hotel (ANA InterContinental)

As you continue walking, you will soon see the Manza Beach Hotel.
From the Hotel to Cape Manzamo, the coastline forms a beautiful, sweeping crescent bay.
The view is so stunning that you can’t help but stop to take a photo!
Something Interesting Happens if you Clap Your Hands Here…

The end of the Walking Trail connects to a Passage leading back to the building.
According to the sign, this spot is known as the “Crying Elephant (The Crying Dragon of Cape Manzamo).”

It is said that if you clap your hands here, something interesting happens.
The sound reflects between the parallel ceiling and floor, creating a unique acoustic effect.
I tried it many times myself, but unfortunately, I couldn’t hear it.
I hope you all give it a try and see for yourself!
Cape Manzamo: Photo Gallery
Summary
This time, I introduced Cape Manzamo, which is famous for its “Elephant’s Trunk.”
With the addition of the new facilities, Cape Manzamo has become much more convenient than it used to be.
I remember that in the past, there was only a vast parking lot and some souvenir shops that looked like stalls inside a tent.
Now, you can take a break or have a meal inside a beautiful building while enjoying the air conditioning.
Since sightseeing in Okinawa often involves long drives in a rental car, having a facility where you can relax and rest is something to be grateful for.
The admission fee for The Walking Trail is also a reasonable 100 yen, so please be sure to stop by during your drive!
Until next time, have a wonderful trip!
